About the course

The electric/hybrid vehicle sector is one of the fastest-growing

industries but, currently only 15% of vehicle technicians are trained

in the latest technology. 


If you're a qualified automotive technician this free training course* 

will enable you to develop your skills and enhance your employment

or promotion prospects. 


And, if you're a garage owner, this free training course* will enable you to upskill your existing staff with the latest industry knowledge and expand the services you can offer to your clients.

What will I learn?

The course covers: 

  • Live system working 
  • Safe working practices 
  • High voltage battery module removal and replace 
  • Module balance charging 
  • High voltage component removal and replace 
  • Diagnosis & fault-finding techniques  
  • Diagnosis activities on a wide range of electric vehicle systems
  • This course includes e-learning elements using IMI Vocanto software

How long is the course? 

The course is five days a week for one week. 

To complete the course and gain the IMI Level 4 award in Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components you will be required to attend all scheduled training sessions. 

Where is the course held? 

Courses are held at the college's dedicated Electric Vehicle and Green Technologies Centre at Bentley Bridge, in Wednesfield - which is equipped with a modern open-plan workshop, an electric/hybrid vehicle and training system, and fully compliant electrical vehicle toolkit - and is taught by experienced and qualified trainers who specialise in electric vehicle training. 


*To be eligible for a free course, you must be aged 19 or over and live within the West Midlands Combined Authority region
