BRIGHT SPARK APPRENTICE IN FINALS OF NATIONAL COMPETITION 

An electrical installation apprentice studying for his qualifications at City of Wolverhampton College has made it through to the finals of a national industry competition. 

Tom Tyler, aged 22, who is an apprentice at RS Electrical in Cannock, came top in the Midlands heat of the SPARKS magazine Learner of the Year 2021 competition and will now go through to the national finals on May 20. 

In the regional round, Tom was up against 11 other competitors and was required to complete an online testdemonstrate his skills and knowledge in a series of practical scenario-based exercises and take part in a virtual discussion with a panel of industry professionals  

For winning the regional heat Tom, who is studying for a City and Guilds Level 3 electrotechnical (installation) qualification, picked up a prize package of professional tools and equipment including a Stanley wood saw, Schneider voltage testers, Waggo connectors and Irwin wire strippers.
