After leaving school, 23-year-old Ryan Guest worked in a bar for a few years and thought he’d left it too late to apply for an apprenticeship – but he was proved wrong when he was taken on as a business apprentice by Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Football Academy.

Ryan, who combines working for Wolves with studying for the Level 2 diploma in business at college, said: “I wanted a job that I knew would get me somewhere in the future so an apprenticeship is ideal for me.

“I’m learning on-the-job and getting paid too which is great! I know lots of people who’ve been to university and are now in lots of debt, so it’s good not to have to worry about that.”

“I attend college once a week and an assessor visits me at work on a regular basis to ensure I’m keeping on top of my modules and any assignments that are required for my course.

“Taking a practical route is a much easier way of learning and doing the apprenticeship has been like a breath of fresh air for me – I definitely made the right decision!”
