Sean Williams - Health and Social Care Level 3

A few weeks after starting to do A levels at the college in September, 17-year-old Sean Williams realised it wasn’t the right choice for him so tutors helped him move to a health and social care course which will still enable him to go to university and train to be a nurse.

Sean, who is now studying for a Level 3 technical certificate in health and social care, said: “I knew I wanted to work in healthcare but thought the only way to get on to a degree course was to do A Levels first , but if I pass this year and progress to the Level 3 technical diploma it’ll give me the grades I need to go to university.

“The tutors made it easy for me to change courses and since I’ve started doing health and social care I enjoy it much more as everything I’m learning will be useful in my future career.  And because the tutors have experience of working in healthcare they can give examples to illustrate what they’re teaching us and this inspired me even more determined to become a nurse.

“I’d say to anyone who’s about to leave school that you shouldn’t just choose a route because teachers or others tell you to, there are lots of other options out there and you need to choose the one that’s best for you and what you want to do in the future.”
