24-year-old Selina Dhura signed up for the rail track sector-based work academy programme (SWAP) after it was recommended to her by her father.

Selina said: “I was interested in learning more about the rail industry and the course has helped me to understand the fundamentals of the industry, terminology, track safety and health and safety, none of which I had knowledge of beforehand.

“I was initially afraid of doing the course because rail seemed like a ‘man’s job’ but the trainers were good and explained everything thoroughly and gave me the confidence and support I needed to complete it.

“The course being free, and being guaranteed an interview at the end, means that it’s one less hurdle to go through and I know that I want to work in the rail industry.”
