Adnan Khan, 29, moved from Pakistan to Wolverhampton in 2016. After years of uncertainty in the UK, he’s now finding solid ground thanks to a construction course that’s helping him turn experience into opportunity. 

“I spent seven years in Qatar working as a land and building surveyor. We were the bridge between engineers and labourers, setting out exact measurements and guiding the construction process. My technical skills were solid, but when I arrived in the UK, the pathway forward was unclear. For two years, I was just going here and there. I didn’t know how to start again.” 

“When I submitted my overseas qualifications to the UK ethics board, they were judged to be equivalent to an NVQ Level 2 or 3, just below what I needed to confidently break into the industry. That’s when I found the NIS course.” 

“The course has taught me so much and feel that my mind is now open! I am working towards getting an CSCS card, completing appropriate health and safety training, and it’s also helping me get on a proper career path.”
