Course: Skill Up and Shaping Success

A group of adult learners from City of Wolverhampton College have successfully progressed through the SkillUp and Shaping Success programmes, building confidence, developing essential skills and moving on to positive next steps.

Many of the learners first began their journey at off‑site sessions held at Central Library before progressing onto on‑campus Shaping Success sessions, where they continued to grow in confidence and support one another.

Students Amber Byrne, Angela Marshall, Ayesha Arshad and Phillips Southern spoke about their experience on the courses as follows:

“The best part of the course was the group. We built really strong friendships, supported each other and encouraged one another to keep going. The sessions felt welcoming, and we could learn at our own pace.” (Group feedback)

“Working together in group activities really helped build my confidence. Sharing ideas and seeing how others approached tasks made a big difference to my learning.” (Ayesha Arshad)

“The tutor was incredibly supportive, patient and encouraging. Nothing ever felt rushed or pressured, and there was always help available when needed.” (Angela Marshall)

“The lessons really helped improve my maths, English and digital skills. I feel much more confident using a laptop and applying what I’ve learned both in class and at home.” (Angela Marshall)

“The course gave me a space to practise and improve my maths, and I really enjoyed how interactive it was, especially working on the whiteboard and learning different methods.” (Amber Byrne)

“This course has helped me grow in confidence and take the next step. I would definitely recommend it to others — it’s a really supportive environment where you can learn and progress.” (Amber Byrne)

All learners from the group have now progressed onto positive destinations, including Functional Skills courses, Essential Digital Skills, employability programmes in Business Administration and Retail, and volunteering opportunities within the community.
