Benjamin Parrett, 19, is studying the Level 2 Catering Club at City of Wolverhampton College, delivered in collaboration with Wolves Foundation. The course is helping him develop practical kitchen skills while building confidence for future employment.
“I chose this course because I wanted to gain more experience and build my confidence in different working environments. As I didn’t have much work experience, I felt this would be a great way to develop useful skills for the future.
“Since starting the course, I’ve learned a range of skills in a kitchen environment, as well as the fundamentals of catering, including hygiene standards and food preparation.
“The support from tutors has been really strong. Sarah‑Louise and Meegan have been incredibly helpful and have supported me in building my confidence, especially when dealing with different situations in a working environment.
“After the course, I plan to continue looking for work and hopefully secure a role following my interview. In the long term, I’d love to go into the film industry, and I believe the skills I’ve gained here — especially working in fast‑paced environments — will help me achieve that.
“I’d recommend this course to anyone thinking about it. It’s a great opportunity to gain new skills, build experience and grow in confidence, with plenty of support available from both the college and Wolves Foundation throughout.”
