Elise Evans, 36, completed her BTEC Performing Arts Diploma at City of Wolverhampton College in 2008. After choosing the course to pursue her passion for performing arts, she has gone on to build a successful and varied career across theatre, radio and live events.
“I chose this course because I wanted to pursue a career in performing arts and had heard great things about it from a friend.
“After college, I went on to study at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, graduating in 2011. Since then, I’ve performed on cruise ships around the world, appeared in pantomimes and theatre tours, and worked as a radio presenter for stations including Capital FM, Heart and BBC Radio WM.
“One of my biggest highlights was hosting part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, which was watched by over a billion people worldwide. I’ve also set up my own community choir, Anthem Voices, which performs across the West Midlands.
“I now work freelance as a presenter, voiceover artist and choir director. I host live events, work on national radio stations, and deliver workshops in schools, care homes and community settings.
“The course prepared me in so many ways. It taught me discipline, performance skills and gave me the confidence to apply for further training. My tutors encouraged me to audition for Italia Conti, which completely changed my career path.
“I feel incredibly lucky to have spent over 15 years doing a job I love. I’m now focusing on balancing my career with spending time with my young daughter.
“To anyone thinking about studying here, I’d say go for it. Bring energy, enthusiasm, passion and performance to everything you do. Work hard, be disciplined and always be kind — it will take you far.”
