After being made redundant at the age of 65, Steve Smerdon was concerned about his future job prospects and the lack of qualifications to fall back on. Through the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), he heard about the Electric/Hybrid Vehicle (EMV) course at City of Wolverhampton College, delivered in partnership with Duplex Training, and decided it could give him a step up towards a new career.
Seven weeks later, Steve has successfully completed his IMI Level 1 and 2 qualifications in EV and Green Technology. Alongside this, he also completed a course in English and Maths to further boost his chances of finding a new role. Steve said:
