Tyler Whiting studied three photography qualifications at City of Wolverhampton College from 2019, progressing from Level 2 through to a Level 5 HND. He discovered a passion for photography through the College’s creative facilities and is now working as an Award-Winning photographer.
“I chose to study Photography after attending one of the open days. I originally came to look at the paramedic pathway, but I got completely wrapped up in all the visuals on display, as well as the studio and darkroom facilities. I went from not really knowing what I wanted to do after school to being completely inspired to pursue photography.”
“Since leaving college, I’m now an award‑winning freelance photographer working across the UK, specialising in live theatre, events, dance and music. I work with theatres, festivals and television production companies, delivering fast‑paced projects ranging from Channel 4 productions to major venues such as the London O2.”
“The courses at City of Wolverhampton College helped me develop confidence in myself and in my photography. I learned everything from the very basics such as studio lighting, darkroom setups and processing film, all the way to where I am now. The courses helped me understand myself and what I want to do for the rest of my life.”
“My plans for the future are to continue strengthening my photography and professional practice, expand my network, and provide coverage across the UK and hopefully around the world. The sky is the limit.”
“I would highly recommend attending college if you think it’s for you. For me, it helped me gain independence, shaped how I approach my professional practice, and was invaluable for my confidence. Photography has given me opportunities I never dreamed of and continues to be what drives me forward.”
