Leanne Cartwright

Course: Seasonal SWAP Retail

“After I’d recovered from a big operation, I was struggling badly with anxiety and depression. My children had all grown up, and I didn’t know how to get back into work. I applied for the Seasonal Swap course but honestly didn’t think I’d be able to do it. My work coach encouraged me to give it a try and see what happened.

“I really wasn’t in a good place, but I challenged myself to go along anyway. At times I felt like I couldn’t keep going, but Chris, the course tutor, was so patient and supportive. His encouragement made such a difference and kept me going when I wanted to give up.

“Even though it was hard, I enjoyed the course and pushed through my anxiety. I ended up applying for a job at Primark, went for the interview and got it! I’ve now been here for five months, and it’s completely changed my life. I no longer suffer from anxiety and depression, and I genuinely love coming to work every day.

“The staff and managers here are amazing, and I feel like I’m really part of the Primark family. I’m so much happier now, and I finally feel like myself again.”

The Primark manager said: “Leanne is a fantastic worker very happy and outgoing who fits in well with the team. I am very happy to have her as a staff member and feel she is an asset to the company.”

The Seasonal Christmas swap 2025 saw a collaboration between Wolverhampton College, The Wulfrun Shopping centre and The Department for work and Pensions. The college will once again be offering this scheme with customer service courses to support recruitment with various retailers, please contact us to find out more.
