Is this course right for me?
If you are passionate about a career in Barbering, this course will teach you skills and knowledge you need to become fully qualified and gain an exciting job in the industry.
You will gain Barbering skills to enable you to take a client on a journey from entering the salon, to carrying out a range of different techniques such as cutting and styling men’s hair , cutting facial hair , colour and lightening hair.
Please note, You will be required to complete 30 hours work experience over the course outside of your college timetabled hours.
Costs
- Kit: you will be required to purchase your own barbering kit (approximately £180)*
- Uniform : a college-approved uniform is compulsory (approximately £50)*
*Financial support may be available to cover some of these costs
Course details
Entry Requirements:
To access this course you are required to:
• Have four or more GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including English and maths*
• Successfully completed a Level 1 hairdressing qualification (preferred but not essential)
• Undertake a salon skills session in which you will be required to meet members of the teaching team and demonstrate sectioning and applying rollers to the hair
• Purchase a kit and college-branded uniform (details will be provided at enrolment)
*If you are below a grade 4/C in English and maths, you will be required to attend lessons in these subjects alongside your Hairdressing qualification – this is a mandatory part of the course. If you already hold a grade 4/C or above in English and maths, you will not need to attend maths and English lessons. However, you will be
expected to complete directed study work packs during this time to ensure you meet the required study hours – this is also mandatory.

• Follow health and safety in the salon
• Working in the hair industry
• Client consultation for hair services
• Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
• Promote products and services to clients in a salon
• Colour and lighten hair
• Cut men’s hair
• Cut facial Hair
• Style men’s hair
• Provide perming services
• Create an image
• Scalp Massage
What skills will I gain?
By studying this course you will:
• Develop skills in cutting, colouring and styling mens hair
• Develop your confidence in dealing with a wide range of clients
• Understand how different services work and are carried out
• Develop your understanding of the health and safety requirements to work in the industry

You will be assessed throughout the course in the following ways:
• Practical observations
• Providing services to clients in a realistic working environment
• Online exams
• Written tasks
What can I do next?
Upon completion you will have developed your skills and expertise to enable you to:
• Gain employment in a salon
• Pursue a hairdressing apprenticeship
• Progress to a Level 3 barbering qualification
