Is this course right for me?

If you have already achieved a level 2 hairdressing qualification and want to improve your creative hairdressing skills, then this course is for you.

Under the supervision of our highly inspirational and experienced staff you will learn a range of creative cutting, colouring and styling techniques, setting the stage for you to develop your expertise and advance into industry.

 

Enrichment

To enhance your learning, you will also get chance to take part in enrichment weeks during which you will be able to learn new techniques, take part in competitions, and complete additional short courses in areas that would be useful to you in the industry, such as hair extensions, wedding hair and creative styling.

Work Experience

Gain work experience by assisting stylists and showcasing your skills by working with paying clients at our New Era salon. Please note, you will be required to find your own placement to complete 30 hours work experience over the course and outside of your college timetabled hours.

Costs

  • Kit: you will be required to purchase your own hairdressing kit (approximately £180)*
  • Uniform : a college-approved uniform is compulsory (approximately £50)*

Entry Requirements:

To access the Level 3 course you are required to:

  • Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and maths* 
  • Have a Level 2 qualification in hairdressing
  • Undertake a salon skills session in which you will be required to meet members of the teaching team and demonstrate a cut and blow dry and show your knowledge of carrying out a consultation with a client – please note that you will required to bring your own client into the salon for this activity
  • Purchase a hairdressing kit and college-branded uniform (details will be provided at enrolment)

*If you are just below a grade 4/C in English and maths, but we feel you are suitable for the course, you will be required to attend lessons in these subjects alongside your Beauty qualification – this is a mandatory part of the course. If you already hold a grade 4/C or above in English and maths, you will not need to attend maths and English lessons. However, you will be expected to complete directed study work packs during this time to ensure you meet the required study hours – this is also mandatory.

  • Hairdressing consultation services
  • Colour hair to create a variety of looks
  • Cut women’s hair using a combination of techniques
  • Creatively style and dress hair to create a variety of looks
  • Perm hair to create a variety of looks
  • Hair colour correction
  • Creative hair design skills
  • Monitor Health and Safety

  • Advanced cutting – combining different types of cut to create a personalised style
  • Creative styling and dressing to create a range of looks
  • Colour correction
  • Confidence in dealing with a range of customers
  • An understanding of how different services are carried out

You will be assessed throughout the programme in the following ways:

  • Practical observations
  • Providing services to clients in a realistic working environment
  • Oral questions
  • Online exams

What can I do next?

Completion of the Level 3 qualification will enable you to:

  • Pursue a career in the industry as a qualified hairdresser
  • Enrol for a Level 3 barbering qualification
  • Progress to a Level 4 qualification such as an HNC or HND or Foundation Degree
