Is this course right for me?
If you have completed a Level 2 qualification in beauty or nail technology and want to become a a fully qualified nail technician, this course will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need for a rewarding future career in the industry.
You will learn a range of advanced skills including gel systems, fibre glass wrap systems, acrylic systems, airbrushing, nail art, 3D and sculpting.
You will learn how to deliver first class customer service and promote products to clients, as well as the importance of health and safety in the workplace – all of which will impress future employers and equip you for a dynamic career in the beauty industry or with the knowledge you need to progression to a higher level of study.
To enhance your learning, you will also get chance to take part in enrichment weeks during which you will be able to learn new techniques, take part in competitions, and complete additional short courses in areas that would be useful to you in the industry, such as hair extensions, ear piercing or eyelash extensions.
You will also complete 30 hours of work experience in a salon and attend lessons to improve your English and maths (or use the time for directed study if you already have Grade 4 or above).
Please note: you will be expected to arrange the work experience placement yourself and will also be required to purchase your own beauty kit, costing approximately £150, and college-approved uniform, costing approximately £50 – order forms will be provided before the start of the course and financial support may be available to help with these costs.

Entry Requirements:
To access this course you are required to:
- Have a Level 2 beauty or nail diploma or NVQ
- Undertake a salon skills session in which you will be required to meet members of the teaching team and demonstrate filing and polishing nails or carrying out a hand massage
- Purchase a nail kit and college-approved uniform (details will be provided at enrolment)
What will I learn?

- Applying and maintaining nail enhancements
- Airbrush designs for nails
- Designing and applying nail art
- Enhancing nails using electric files
- Working with colleagues in beauty-related industries.
- Client care and communication
- Displaying stock to promote products
- Promoting and selling products and services to clients
- Monitoring and maintaining health and safety practice in the salon
In addition, if you are aged 16-19 and have not achieved a Grade 4 in English and/or maths you will required to attend classes for the relevant subject as part of your course.
What skills will I gain?

- Improve your communication and customer service skills.
- Gain valuable team working skills by working as a member of a team in a commercial salon.

How will I be assessed?
Throughout the course you will be assessed in the following ways:
- Continuous formative and summative assessments for each unit for which you will be graded as either a pass, merit or distinction.
- Online tests for each unit as you progress through the course.
- Completion of 30 hours of beauty-related work experience with an employer, industry practitioner or trainer.
- Production of a portfolio of evidence
