Deniza Pavlova

Course: English GCSE

When Deniza Pavlova arrived in the UK, she began her studies in ESOL at City of Wolverhampton College. At the time, the idea of studying for GCSEs felt far beyond her reach.

“When I first arrived in the UK, I began studying ESOL. At the time, I could barely hold a full conversation in English, and the idea of studying for GCSEs felt far beyond my reach. But thanks to the support, encouragement, and belief from staff at the college, I’ve come further than I ever thought possible.

To the English department — thank you for giving me the tools to express myself and for helping me find my voice in a new language. You taught me more than grammar and essays — you taught me confidence. The team didn’t just teach lessons; they gave their time, listened, encouraged, and made me feel like I could do this. You showed me that building a new life as an adult in a new country is something to be proud of, not something to hide.

I’m very happy to share that I’ve recently started working in the Licensing Department at Wolverhampton Council. It’s a big step for me, and I know I wouldn’t be where I am now without everything the college has helped me achieve. Thank you for your understanding, patience, and — most of all — for helping me grow, not just as an English student, but as a person finding their place in a new country.”
