At 40 years old, Serge Saco-Monthe decided it was time for a change of direction and enrolled on our FREE First steps to Adult Care course at City of Wolverhampton College.
The course gave Serge a solid foundation in the basics of social care, including person-centred care, safeguarding vulnerable adults, and manual handling. Alongside subject knowledge, he also built vital academic and digital skills, gaining confidence in using Microsoft Word to produce well-presented reports and Excel to analyse and interpret data through formulas. Serge said:
“The course made it easier to take notes in lessons and give my answers effectively, whether on paper or digitally. My time management and critical thinking improved as a result, and I’ve gained the knowledge and confidence I need to move forward. I’ve also made new friends along the way.”
“I am now progressing to university to complete a degree in Mental Health Nursing – a step that will enable me to pursue my ambition of a career in healthcare. Thinking about this course, it is the best option to access further education, especially for someone who might be looking for a career change or interested in being introduced into a new field.”
