If yes, then this course is right for you!

Maths can be used to model and simplify many aspects of the situations we encounter in everyday life, from the distribution of heights in the population to the mechanics of the operation of a lift. Maths is an A Level entry requirement at University for all sorts of subjects, while the skills you will learn will make you more desirable for almost any job!

In fact, careers in finance, computing, engineering, and business are all crying out for people with maths qualifications, while studies have shown that people with Maths A Level tend to earn more on average than people without it.

Please note – when applying for any A level on our website, this submits your application for the full A level programme. You only need to apply for one subject – your other subject choices will be discussed at interview.

To access this course you are required to have:

  • Five or more GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English, and 6 in Maths
  • The required QoE score

  • Develop your understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes in a way that promotes confidence and fosters enjoyment
  • Develop abilities to reason logically and recognise incorrect reasoning, to generalise and to construct mathematical proofs
  • Extend your range of mathematical skills and techniques and use them in more difficult, unstructured problems
  • Develop an understanding of coherence and progression in mathematics and of how different areas of mathematics can be connected
  • Recognise how a situation may be represented mathematically and understand the relationship between ‘real-world’ problems and standard and other mathematical models and how these can be refined and improved
  • Use mathematics as an effective means of communication
  • Read and comprehend mathematical arguments and articles concerning applications of mathematics
  • Acquire the skills needed to use technology such as calculators and computers effectively, recognise when such use may be inappropriate and be aware of limitations
  • Develop an awareness of the relevance of mathematics to other fields of study, to the world of work and to society in general
  • Take increasing responsibility for your own learning and the evaluation of your own mathematical development

How will I be assessed?

Each unit is assessed by an externally set 1 hour 30 minutes examination.
