Is this course right for me?

To achieve this qualification your current work role should involve the assessment of both occupational competence and vocationally related achievement, to assess learners in their place of work and in the learning environments as this means that upon completion of the CAVA, you will be a fully qualified assessor in your area of expertise.

So, whether you need to be able to observe learners in the workplace or assess their vocational knowledge through assignment-based tasks and question and answer sessions in classrooms; the CAVA assessor course will have you covered for your industry.

Entry Requirements:

This course is available for all candidates who fulfil the following criteria:

  • Age range: 19+
  • Access to the internet using a laptop / PC / tablet using up to date Windows operating systems.
  • Have access to two learners who you assess in the classroom and in the workplace. You can use different learners for the classroom and workplace assessments.
  • Level 2 English Functional Skills or grade c or equivalent above in literacy
  • Learners must be fully competent practitioners and where applicable, hold the relevant practitioner qualifications in the work area in which they are seeking to become assessors

What will I learn?

During this course you will:

  • Understand the principles and practices of assessment – know and understand the principles and practices that underpin assessment
  • Assess occupational competence in the work environment – how to effectively carry out assessments of performance in an individual’s work environment.
  • Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding – develop assessment methods that are suitable to assess others vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace. This could be in workshops, classrooms or other training environments.

What skills will I gain?

By studying this course you will:

  • Develop your understanding of the key principles and practices of assessment.
  • Develop an appreciation for the assessment methods required to effectively assess.
  • Develop your confidence in the assessment process.
  • Understand strategies for supporting candidates through the assessment process
  • Gain valuable team working and communication skills by taking part in course activities, discussions and presentations.

How will I be assessed?

This is an assignment based course so there are no exams. You will create a portfolio of evidence.

What can I do next?

Upon completing this qualification it can help you to progress your career as a Qualified Assessor or Trainer.
