Support technicians work across a variety of engineering and manufacturing environments, including aerospace, automotive, maritime, defence, and advanced manufacturing. Their role is to support the design, development, quality assurance, production, and maintenance of engineered products and services.

What Does the Role Involve?

As an Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician, you will:

  • Apply safe systems of work
  • Contribute technically to engineering and manufacturing processes
  • Assist in quality control, planning, documentation, testing, and reporting
  • Use approved techniques and procedures to solve engineering/manufacturing problems
  • Communicate technical and non-technical information effectively
  • Commit to continual personal and professional development

Course details

Entry Requirements:

Individual employers set their own criteria, but candidates typically require:

  • Four GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including maths (preferably Grade B/5), English, and a science.

Upon successful completion, apprentices can:

  • Progress to a Level 4 HNC in Engineering
  • Achieve professional registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech)
