This course is ideal if you’re interested in how electrical systems work, like problem-solving, and want to keep vital equipment operating safely and efficiently. It suits those who prefer practical work and enjoy working with wiring, circuits, and control systems.

Entry Requirements:

Set by the employer, but you’ll need at least a Grade C/4 in Maths before enrolment.

What will I learn?

  • First principles of operation and maintenance of electrical plant and equipment
  • Health, safety, and environmental regulations for electrical work
  • Maintenance practices, processes, and procedures specific to electrical systems
  • Engineering theories and principles that underpin electrical maintenance

What skills will I gain?

  • Diagnosing and fixing electrical faults
  • Testing and inspecting electrical systems to ensure compliance and safety
  • Reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and technical documents
  • Preparing and reinstating electrical work areas safely
  • Communicating technical information effectively

Advanced Technology and Automotive Centre

You will combine working for the company with studying towards occupational standards set by employers – usually attending college one day per week – and will train in the brand new Advanced Technology and Automotive Centre at the Wellington Road campus, in Bilston.
The £8.1million centre has been purpose-built for automotive and engineering studies and has dedicated automotive and electrical workshops and is equipped with a range of industry-standard equipment.
