Entry Requirements:

Determined by the employer, but you’ll need at least a Grade C/4 in Maths before enrolment.

What skills will I gain?

  • Identifying and repairing both electrical and mechanical faults
  • Inspecting and maintaining a wide range of plant and equipment
  • Reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Preparing and restoring work areas for different systems
  • Clear communication and teamwork across disciplines

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will include:

  • Practical, work-based tasks observed by assessors
  • Written assignments and portfolio work
  • A final end-point assessment to confirm competence in both areas

What can I do next?

You could progress to roles such as:

  • Multi-skilled Maintenance Technician
  • Service Engineer
  • Advanced apprenticeships or higher-level engineering study
  • Specialising in fields like automation, robotics, or technical support

You will combine working for the company with studying towards occupational standards set by employers – usually attending college one day per week – and will train in the brand new Advanced Technology and Automotive Centre at the Wellington Road campus, in Bilston.
The £8.1million centre has been purpose-built for automotive and engineering studies and has dedicated automotive and electrical workshops and is equipped with a range of industry-standard equipment.
