The course runs for 12 weeks every Tuesday evening between 6.00pm – 9.00pm

 

If you are new to welding, would like to get some experience before applying for a job or work in another area of engineering and want to develop your practical skills, this short course will give you a basic understanding of either MIG or TIG welding processes and techniques used in the industry.

The course covers MIG or TIG welding – you will be required to choose one process to study and if you wish to learn about additional processes you will need to enrol on a further course.

You will train at the new £8.1 million purpose-built Advanced Technology and Automotive Centre at the Wellington Road campus, in Bilston, which boasts dedicated engineering workshops kitted out with industry-standard equipment including fabrication and welding suites, a specialist CAD room featuring AutoCAD and SolidWorks software, CNC milling machines, lathes, 3D printers, mechatronic t-rigs and a laser cutter.

What will I learn?

During the course you will study the following modules:

  • Setting up and closing down procedures of welding equipment
  • Basic welding techniques and joints in your one chosen field
  • Health and safety in a welding workshop

  • Ability to tackle more complex tasks

Throughout the course you will be assessed in the following ways:

  • Observation or practical tasks
  • Written assessment

What can I do next?

Completion of the course will enable you to progress to:

  • Level 2 qualification in the welding process you have chosen
  • Level 1 qualification in an additional welding process
