Entry Requirements:

To access this course, you are required to have:

• Four or more GCSEs (including English language) at grade 3 (D/E) or above OR
• Successful completion of a Level 1 in Health and Social Care with English at grade 3 (D/E) or above
• Good attendance and punctuality

You will also be required to attend an interview with an admissions tutor to determine your suitability for the course and will be required to have a satisfactory DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check – paperwork for this will be completed during induction week at the start of the academic year.

What skills will I gain?

By studying this course you will:

• Develop your understanding of the issues that need to be considered when working in health and social care environment within a multicultural society and will learn investigative skills as you look at the many factors that contribute to a diverse and equal society
• Learn how to communicate effectively within a health and social care environment through the investigation of different forms of communication, understanding barriers to communication and how to be able to communicate effectively
• Develop an appreciation of the health and wellbeing needs of others and how these needs may be addressed to improve the health and wellbeing of an individual
• Understand how legislation in health and social care environments is applied and develop  knowledge of how to minimise hazards and risks
• Improve your time management and organisational skills
• Gain valuable team working and communication skills by taking part in whole class and small group discussions and presentations

You will be continually assessed throughout the programme in the following ways:

• Project work
• Assignments
• Peer assessment
• Case studies
• Workbooks

You will also be required to complete an external assessment and undertake tests for Functional Skills in English and maths.

What can I do next?

Successful completion of this qualification will enable you to:

• Progress to the Health and Social Care T Level – a Level 3 qualification which is equivalent to three A Levels*
• Progress to the Health and Social Care Level 3 qualification*
• Apply for an apprenticeship in health and social care

*If you want to progress to this qualification you will need to achieve Level 2 at grade 4 (C) or above, as well as English and maths at grade 4. You will also need to have achieved separate sciences at Grade 4 or above OR Science Trilogy at grade 55 or above.
