Entry Requirements:

Entry requirement for this apprenticeship will be decided by the employer, however a minimum of a Grade C/4 is required in Maths prior to enrolment.

What will I learn?

A Technician will learn:

  • The principles of operation and maintenance for mechanical plant and equipment
  • Mechanical maintenance practices, processes, and procedures
  • Health, safety, and environmental regulations relevant to the engineering sector
  • Engineering theories and principles that apply to mechanical systems

What skills will I gain?

  • Fault finding and repairing mechanical equipment
  • Carrying out inspections and maintenance tasks
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
  • Preparing and reinstating mechanical work areas safely
  • Communicating effectively with colleagues and stakeholders

  • Practical assessments in the workplace
  • Written assignments and portfolio work
  • An end-point assessment to demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and behaviours

You will combine working for the company with studying towards occupational standards set by employers – usually attending college one day per week – and will train in the brand new Advanced Technology and Automotive Centre at the Wellington Road campus, in Bilston.
