Is this course right for me?

If you have completed a Level 2 qualification in beauty or nail technology and want to become a a fully qualified nail technician, this course will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need for a rewarding future career in the industry.

You will learn a range of advanced skills including gel systems, fibre glass wrap systems, acrylic systems, airbrushing, nail art, 3D and sculpting. You will learn how to deliver first class customer service and promote products to clients, as well as the importance of health and safety in the workplace – all of which will impress future employers and equip you for a dynamic career in the beauty industry or with the knowledge you need to progression to a higher level of study.

Enrichment

To enhance your learning, you will also get chance to take part in enrichment weeks during which you will be able to learn new techniques, take part in competitions, and complete additional short courses in areas that would be useful to you in the industry, such as hair extensions, ear piercing or eyelash extensions.

Work Experience

Work Experience for 19+ learners is not compulsory but we would still encourage it.

  • Kit: you will be required to purchase your own beauty kit (approximately £150)*
  • Uniform : a college-approved uniform is compulsory (approximately £50)*

Entry Requirements:

To access this course you are required to:

  • Successfully completed a Level 2 beauty and/or nail qualification
  • English and maths at Grade 4 or above* 
  • Beauty/Salon experience (preferred but not essential)
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, show friendliness, respect and professionalism, and be able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Undertake a salon skills session in which you will be required to meet members of the teaching team and demonstrate a back massage or facial

*Adults without the necessary qualifications will be required to sit an online assessment in the relevant subject.

By studying this course you will:

  • Understand how different nail systems work and how they are applied.
  • Develop your confidence in dealing with a wide range of clients.
  • Improve your communication and customer service skills.
  • Gain valuable team working skills by working as a member of a team in a commercial salon.
  • Develop your understanding of the health and safety in the industry.

How will I be assessed?

Throughout the course you will be assessed in the following ways:

  • Continuous formative and summative assessments for each unit for which you will be graded as either a pass, merit or distinction.
  • Online tests for each unit as you progress through the course.
  • Completion of 30 hours of beauty-related work experience with an employer, industry practitioner or trainer.
  • Production of a portfolio of evidence
