Is this course right for me?
Whether you want to make plastering your career, already work in a different trade in the construction industry and want to gain another qualification, or are simply a keen DIY-er who wants to be able to do small plastering jobs around the home, this short, part-time, introductory course is a great place to start!
You will gain basic plastering skills and techniques, learn about using the right tools and materials for the job, and gain an understanding of health and safety and safe working practices.
Also, if you earn less than £32,000 per year and aged 19 or over, you could study this course for FREE! Take advantage of the new funding and #DoMore with your future.

Entry Requirements:
There are no entry requirements for this course – you just need to have an interest in the subject, a willingness to learn and be committed to attending college for the duration of the course.
What will I learn?
During this course you will study:
- Principles and theory or plastering
- Equipment and materials for different jobs
- Skimming
- Rendering
- Health and safety and safe working practices
What skills will I gain?
By studying this course you will:
- Learn about using different types of plasters for different surfaces
- Develop your trowel skills
- Gain an understanding of the different types of plasterboard
- Learn about the importance of health and safety and safe working practices
How will I be assessed?
This is an assignment-based course so there are no exams. You will be continually assessed by tutors throughout the programme and be required to produce certain pieces of work for them to mark.
What can I do next?
The skills you will learn from this course will enable you to:
- Apply your skills in real-life projects by tackling small plastering jobs at home or assisting on construction sites.
- Progress to other construction level 1 qualifications at the college such as Bricklaying, Carpentry, or Painting and Decorating
- Enhance your employability by combining plastering with other trade skills to increase your versatility in the construction industry.
- Consider apprenticeships or site work – use your new skills as a stepping stone into entry-level roles or apprenticeships in construction.
