Is this course right for me?
This one year course gives an introduction to creative techniques in art, design and media.
During the year you will study a range of specialisms including fine art, printmaking, graphic design, digital media, 3D techniques and ceramics alongside drawing.
You will gain confidence in your creative abilities develop interpersonal and communication skills, The course also includes visits to exhibitions, art galleries and museums.
City of Wolverhampton College is an approved centre for UAL Awarding Body Level 2 Award and Diploma in Art and Design.

Entry Requirements:
To access this course you are required to:
- Have four or more GCSEs at Grade 2 or above, including English and Maths, or equivalent
- Attend an interview with one of the college’s admissions tutors
- Present a portfolio of recent art and design work in order to demonstrate your interest, enthusiasm and commitment to undertaking this level of course
What will I learn?
During this course you will study seven units which include:
- Communication in drawing
- painting
- 2D design
- Graphic/ digital design
- 3D techniques
- Ceramics
- Time-based art.
You will also study artists, visit galleries and create exhibitions of your work.
What skills will I gain?
By studying this course you will:
- Gain knowledge and understanding of 2D, 3D and 4D techniques. This can include drawing, painting, digital design, print making, 3D, ceramics and textiles.
- Learn how to use a sketchbook, work with digital software and visit art galleries.
- Gain confidence in your own creative abilities and a set of skills to equip you for Level 2
How will I be assessed?
You will mainly be assessed through practical coursework. If you are taking Maths or English re-sits as part of your programme, these will be assessed by exams.
What can I do next?
The skills you will learn from this course will enable you to:
- Progress on to the UAL Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design helping you to pursue a future career as a graphic designer, illustrator, architect, fine artist, interior designer, product designer, fashion designer and stylist, sculptor or concept artist
