Is this course right for me?

The Volunteering and Community Inclusion course aims to develop their skills, knowledge, and behaviour, against their Educational Health Care Plans targets. Developing independent and employability skills to prepare them for the opportunity to volunteer or participate in community activities.

To achieve this, the students will work towards the following objectives:

  • Developing employability and independence
  • Developing motivation and resilience
  • Developing problem solving and self-regulation skills
  • Community skills
  • Enrichment activities
  • Maths, English and digital ICT
  • Social and community action

This course is over three stages, Foundation, Stage one, and Stage two.

Foundation is aimed at those who are new to the College, transitioning from their previous educational environment and building on those essentials skills they have already achieved. Where the student is demonstrating their progression through their EHCP targets and work completed in their Foundation stage, the student can move through to stage one.

Stage one they will increase their skills knowledge and behaviours, by learning more around travelling outside the college, meeting new people, working as a team, and developing their essential employability skills that could mean they move to stage two.

Stage two is further developing those skills and enabling them to learn about planning, developing projects for volunteering and community activities, and acting on those plans.
