FIREFIGHTERS DRIVE HOME TYRE SAFETY MESSAGE TO STUDENTS

The devastating effects of poorly maintained vehicle tyres will be driven home to students at City of Wolverhampton College by West Midlands Fire Service as (WMFS) part of a national safety campaign.

Firefighters from White Watch at Wolverhampton Fire Station, in Merridale Street, will be visiting the Wellington Road campus, in Bilston, to demonstrate how accident victims are cut out of vehicles and highlight the importance of regular tyre checks as part of national Tyre Safety month.

This year’s ‘Under Pressure’ campaign – launched on October 1 by TyreSafe, the UK’s tyre safety charity – encourages vehicle owners to check their tyres at least once a month.

As part of the visit, the WMFS team will be checking the pressure, depth and overall condition of tyres, as well as talking to students about the importance of preparing their vehicles for the winter.

In support of the campaign, students studying for automotive qualifications at the college’s new Advanced Technology and Automotive Centre have been offering free tyre checks with around 30 people taking up the offer.
