Once open fields and farmland, the Paget Road site was chosen in the 1960s to meet Wolverhampton’s growing need for education. Opening in 1962 as Wulfrun College, it was hailed as a modern, forward-thinking campus with spacious classrooms, specialist workshops, and welcoming communal areas – a symbol of opportunity and progress for the community.

Over the years, the campus evolved to meet changing needs, with new buildings, upgraded workshops, and modern teaching spaces added to enhance the learning experience. From refurbished science labs to expanded sports facilities, each investment reflected a commitment to keeping education at Paget Road forward-thinking and accessible.

As industries and careers transformed, so too did the courses offered. From traditional trades and academic study in the 1960s, to emerging fields in digital skills and creative arts, Paget Road continually adapted to equip students with skills for the future. Facilities were updated in line with these changes, ensuring that teaching stayed relevant and inspiring.

In September 1999, Wulfrun College merged with Bilston Community College to form Wolverhampton College. Just a few months later—on 18 December 2000—Wolverhampton was officially granted city status as part of the Millennium cities initiative. In light of this new civic designation, the college adopted its current name, City of Wolverhampton College. Throughout this transition, the Paget Road campus remained a vital educational site, continuing its proud tradition of serving students and the wider community under the college’s expanded, city-based mission.
