Want to learn cutting edge skills in music technology recording, sequencing and live sound?

The University of Arts London Awarding Body (UAL) Level 3 Diploma / Extended Diploma in Music Technology is taught by highly experienced tutors, who will teach you in industry standard recording studios, Mac suites and at the superb Slade Rooms live venue in the city centre.

You will begin your first year of study on the UAL Level 3 Diploma and then once successfully completed you will progress to your second year on the Level 3 Extended Diploma, which is equivalent to three A Levels.

You will develop skills in sequencing using software packages to compose, edit and mix music and soundtracks, learn about the music industry, research and explore areas of the industry such as record labels, recording studios and the jobs associated with these. You will learn how to set up and operate equipment in the college's industry-standard recording studios for the capture and processing of sound and at the Slade Rooms live music venue.

The course is accredited by the University of the Arts London Awarding Body (UAL)  a specialist awarding body offering up-to-date qualifications in the creative industries. It is owned by, and based within, University of the Arts London.  City of Wolverhampton College is the only college in the Black Country, and one of only a few in the Midlands, to be accredited and offer qualifications from University of Arts London. 

To access this course you are required to: 

  • Have five or more GCSEs at Grade C /4 or above
  • Attend an interview with a member of the college's admissions team
  • Provide a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your musical experience and ability

By studying this course you will:

  • Learn live sound and concert management in an actual working music venue in the city centre using state of the art live sound equipment
  • Work in a dedicated music computer suite running industry standard software packages

  • Be a part of booking, promoting, engineering and stage managing your own gigs at the Slade Rooms

The course is project/assignment based and assessment is continuous throughout the year both in lessons, set work and through observations. Each unit will be assessed and awarded with a final grade of pass, merit or distinction. Some units may be subject to external assessment.

  • Pursue a career in sound engineering, sound recording, events management, marketing and promotion, technician or as a freelancer in the industry
  • Progress on to our HND in Live Sound and Events
