Our University of Arts London Awarding Body (UAL) Level 3 Diploma in TV, film and radio will teach you the practical skills and media knowledge that will allow you to thrive in the media industries and be highly employable in the modern media workplace.

The media industry today is changing at rates faster than ever before and our UAL Level 3 Creative Media Production course focuses on ensuring you are prepared for an industry that requires multi-talented people by training you in a range of media disciplines.

You will begin your first year of study on the diploma and then once successfully completed you will progress to your second year on the extended diploma, which is equivalent to three A Levels.

This is a practical, work-related course and you will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you will develop the skills you need to start your career. You will work in all studio programme production roles and learn location shooting, editing and pre-production management. Some aspects of the course will look at understanding programme content and style, genre, mass communication, representations, audiences and institutions. Close attention is paid to current affairs, documentary drama, advertising and commercial video.

The course is accredited by the University of the Arts London Awarding Body (UAL). City of Wolverhampton College is the only college in the Black Country, and one of only a few in the Midlands, to be accredited and offer qualifications from University of Arts London. UAL is a specialist awarding body offering up-to-date qualifications in the creative industries. It is owned by, and based within, University of the Arts London.

To access this course you are required to: 

  • Have five or more GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above
  • Attend an interview and provide a portfolio of relevant work to demonstrate your suitability for the course

The course is project/assignment based and assessment is continuous throughout the year both in lessons, set work and through observations.The course will culminate in a final project which will be marked as pass, merit or distinction.

  • Progress to the Foundation Degree in Commercial Video
  • Apply to university
  • Pursue a career as an animator, director, producer, audio recordist, boom operator, broadcast engineer, camera operator, consulting producer, digital imaging technician, editor, lighting technical director, marketing executive, musical arranger, producer, reporter, researcher, runner, scripts supervisor, sound engineer, stage manager, storyboard artist, technical director or web designer
